KOSA and TTA announced that they will jointly hold the "Physical AI Standardization Strategy Seminar" on the 15th.

The event is hosted by the "Physical AI Standardization Forum" (PASA), and the Ministry of Science and ICT's ICT standardization forum support project is the background for its operation.

PASA plans to build technical specifications and a standards framework for AI, robotics, sensors, components, and data interoperability, and to support links with national and international standardization.

The Korea Software Industry Association (KOSA) and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) announced on the 15th that they will jointly hold the "Physical AI Standardization Strategy Seminar." The event is hosted by the Physical AI Standardization Forum (PASA).

PASA is operated under the Ministry of Science and ICT's ICT standardization forum support project. The seminar was organized as a venue to share strategies for advancing global standardization.

PASA is an industry-led collaboration launched last August. It is tasked with building technical specifications and a standards framework for AI, robotics, sensors, components, and data interoperability.

PASA is chaired by Jang Young-jae, a professor at KAIST. More than 20 companies related to AI and physical AI are participating in PASA, including MegazoneCloud, Realworld, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The forum is pursuing key tasks aimed at helping physical AI take root in Korea's ecosystem. Those tasks include defining the concept of physical AI standards, verifying the safety of SW-AI and physical-system integration, managing specialized data throughout its full lifecycle, establishing an ontology, and building a Sim-to-Real reliability evaluation framework.

The seminar was held on the day, with the theme of ways to standardize and industrialize physical AI technology. Yoo Sang-geun, a senior researcher at ETRI, gave a presentation on "Where Should Physical AI Standardization Begin?" and outlined directions for advancing international standardization. Park Joon-ho, a professor at Chung-Ang University, gave a presentation on "Standardization Strategies and Implementation Tasks for the Commercialization of Physical AI Companies" and shared ways to apply standards in corporate settings.

Jang Young-jae, chair of PASA, said that cases of applying physical AI centered on robotics and autonomous control are being created rapidly in industrial settings. He added that the forum will systematically respond with the aim of pursuing swift standardization and supporting Korean industry in securing technological leadership in the global market.

Kim Dae-jung, head of the Standardization Headquarters at TTA, said that because physical AI involves direct interaction with the physical environment, ensuring interoperability and safety in physical AI is a prerequisite for commercialization and market expansion.

In line with this, Kim said TTA plans to fully support PASA in implementing forum-developed standards as industry standards and national standards, and in helping those standards evolve into de jure and de facto international standards. KOSA and TTA plan to use the seminar as an opportunity to strengthen a full-lifecycle standardization cooperation framework that spans forum-standard development, national standard establishment, and links with international standardization bodies.
