LG Uplus, IBCT to Support Domestic Companies' Response to European Supply Chain Regulations With Catena-X

LG Uplus and IBCT announced on the 28th that they had signed a strategic partnership for the Catena-X business. As European supply chain regulations have recently been tightened, LG Uplus will push ahead with support for domestic manufacturers responding to European supply chain data regulations. The two companies have joined forces on Catena-X cooperation to support domestic manufacturers.

The goal of the partnership is to ease entry barriers for domestic manufacturers into Catena-X. The two companies also plan to help domestic manufacturers secure the ability to comply with global regulations. The support will target companies seeking to adopt Catena-X, and the scope will cover the entire process. Through this, they aim to reduce the burden of adopting Catena-X and help companies that want to adopt it respond to regulations and connect data.

Catena-X is a data-sharing ecosystem in which global manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen participate. Companies participating in Catena-X retain control over their own data. Catena-X also enables standardized connection and exchange of key regulatory data.

IBCT is the only partner in Korea of Cofinity-X, the commercial service operator of Catena-X. Based on this, IBCT will support domestic companies in joining Catena-X and also help with onboarding and system buildout. Using its own data space platform, IBCT provides response functions for product carbon footprint (PCF), digital product passport (DPP), traceability, and certificate management (CCM).

LG Uplus provides cloud infrastructure, telecommunications infrastructure, and security infrastructure, offering enterprise customers a stable communications environment. For enterprise customers, LG Uplus will handle consulting, build support, and operational support for Catena-X adoption. It will also combine its security solution capabilities to provide an environment in which data can be managed safely.

With the launch of this integrated business framework, end-to-end support is now available for companies seeking to adopt Catena-X. The scope of support covers everything from adoption consultation and registration to system buildout, infrastructure provision, and service operations. As a result, companies seeking to adopt Catena-X will receive support for the full process, from initial consultation to registration, buildout, infrastructure, and operations, in one continuous flow.

Kwon Geun-seop, head of LG Uplus' Customer Group, and Lee Jeong-ryun, CEO of IBCT, noted the shift toward data-centered global supply chains and said domestic manufacturers need to prepare for both data management and external linkage. Lee said that the data-centered restructuring of global supply chains is accelerating, creating a need for a data management system capable of responding to it for domestic manufacturers. Kwon said that tasks for Korean companies participating in European supply chains include establishing methods for data collection and management, securely protecting critical manufacturing data, and securing ways to connect with global partners.

As a response, they proposed combining LG Uplus' infrastructure and security capabilities with IBCT's data space technology. Kwon said LG Uplus would make Catena-X adoption easier and more stable for domestic manufacturers based on its enterprise customer base, cloud, network, and security capabilities. Lee said IBCT would combine its data space technology with LG Uplus' stable ICT infrastructure to provide practical services for connecting export companies to the global manufacturing ecosystem.
