Gates Foundation Adds a Public-Interest Voice to Agentic AI Standards Talks

According to AI TIMES, the Gates Foundation joined the Agentic AI Foundation on September 15 as its first philanthropic and public-interest member, taking part in efforts to reflect the needs of low-income countries and underserved regions from the technology and standards design stage. As a first step in the partnership, it will support a developer event in Nairobi, Kenya, on November 19, widening the pathway for more developers from the broader region to join the discussion. The move marks a shift in which a public-interest perspective is being brought in earnest to the push for open standards and an open-source ecosystem, rather than a structure centered on specific companies. The foundation plans to draw on its experience in health, education, agriculture, and economic opportunity to participate in discussions on foundational technologies. The event also signals an intention to expand African developer and local community participation, creating more opportunities to contribute directly to open projects.
