Hyundai Rotem Completes Armored Ambulance Development, Laying Groundwork for Mass Production

According to AI TIMES, Hyundai Rotem completed the system development of an armored medical evacuation vehicle overseen by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration on September 1, bringing an armored ambulance for battlefield patient transport to completion with domestic technology. The vehicle was designed to account for both patient transport and emergency treatment while 2 medics are onboard, with space and medical equipment operability in mind. Built on an existing vehicle already slated for deployment, its key feature is that it can move safely and quickly to rear-area medical facilities even in rough terrain, bad weather, or threatening situations. It is also equipped with an interior environment, stretcher transport device, and various medical devices to improve continuity of treatment during transit. The development is aimed at reducing gaps in the frontline emergency medical system. The company said it sees the project as a starting point for expanding its wheeled armored vehicle lineup, with the potential to lead to mass production, deployment, and response to overseas markets.
