MongoDB Intensifies Push Into Korean Market on Legacy Modernization and AI Innovation

MongoDB is stepping up its push into the Korean market. It has presented legacy modernization and AI innovation as the two main pillars of its business expansion.

MongoDB plans to respond to demand for AI transformation in key industries such as manufacturing and finance, while also strengthening its partner ecosystem and expanding into the public sector.

Jang Jeong-wook, head of MongoDB Korea, outlined the direction at a press briefing for "MongoDB .local Seoul 2026" held on the 1st at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas.

Jang said the adoption of AI by domestic companies is moving from the experimental stage to the production stage, where it is applied to actual services. He said that beyond the PoC stage, AI use is becoming more concrete in real operating environments such as search, personalization, fraud detection, manufacturing equipment, and processes.

Jang said that high-performance AI models alone make it difficult to achieve the results companies expect. He said the prerequisites for AI applications are a foundation of real-time operational data and the use of information at the right time and in the right context, adding that the key is data and data architecture.

Jang also pointed to legacy architecture, siloed data, and technical debt as obstacles to AI transformation. He said existing structures, fragmented data, and accumulated technical burdens are preventing AI transition.

Accordingly, MongoDB is planning to expand its domestic business around "modernization" and "AI innovation." Its strategy is to reduce companies' technical debt and architectural complexity and establish a flexible data foundation, thereby supporting easier adoption of digital and AI capabilities. Through support based on an integrated data platform, the company plans to help build AI systems, applications, and agents that can be used in real operating environments, and to back AI innovation at Korean companies.

MongoDB identified manufacturing, finance, and digital native companies as sectors and company groups where AI use is active. Jang said AI use is expanding in manufacturing through integration with operational and sensor data. In finance, he said fraud detection, document intelligence, and the validation and expansion of AI assistants are under way. For digital native companies, he said there is strong demand for real-time data use for personalization, recommendations, and search.

In line with these trends, MongoDB has set a policy to strengthen its domestic partner ecosystem. Jang said collaboration with partners who understand industry characteristics, customer environments, and processes is important. He added that the company launched a strategic partner program this year and is further strengthening cooperative relationships.

MongoDB also plans to accelerate its entry into the public sector market. Recently, MongoDB registered its products on the Public Procurement Service's KONEPS after going through procedures with its partner company. Based on the KONEPS listing, the company plans to expand product adoption among public institutions in the future.

Jang explained modernization and AI not as separate efforts but as elements within a single data strategy at the convergence point of modernization and AI, saying modernization's role is to create the foundation for AI, while AI's role is to accelerate modernization. He added that the company plans to pursue its business in the Korean market along these lines.
