GS ITM Wins KAC’s Next-Generation SKY-POS Project to Upgrade Airport Retail Infrastructure

GS ITM has been selected as the final contractor for the 'next-generation SKY-POS construction project' ordered by Korea Airports Corporation (KAC). Korea Airports Corporation issued the project to transition the administrative and sales management system, which covers commercial facilities infrastructure at 14 airports nationwide, to a next-generation architecture.

On the 24th, GS ITM announced plans to begin a full-scale overhaul of the system. The target system is an administrative and sales management system that covers commercial facilities infrastructure at 14 airports nationwide, and it will be upgraded to a data- and artificial intelligence (AI)-centric architecture.

The scope of the project covers the entire process from implementation to stabilization. The target for completion is the end of next year, and the focus is on improving work efficiency for concession operators such as duty-free shops and food and beverage outlets inside airports, as well as for corporation staff.

GS ITM won the contract in recognition of its experience operating POS infrastructure in large-scale distribution and commerce environments and its AI capabilities. The overhaul will proceed along two axes: innovating convenience for tenant-focused operations and shifting to a lightweight, modern architecture.

GS ITM applied item registration automation using ontology-based large language model (LLM) technology so that AI automatically maps and recommends item classifications when products are registered. According to GS ITM, item registration automation can reduce manual work time and errors, and tenants can also check item-by-item sales trends based on refined data. GS ITM said this can help secure transparency in sales management, improve convenience in sales management, and make data use easier.

GS ITM provides optimized dashboards tailored to user types such as corporation staff, tenants, and on-site operators. Through this, it supports the review of sales and settlement data without separate processing and aims for communication based on the same data on both sides. GS ITM said it aims to build a mutually beneficial concession operating framework through user-specific dashboards and communication based on the same data.

GS ITM also pushed ahead with a complete architecture overhaul. Existing custom-developed CBO functions tied to rental ERP were moved to a separate web environment independent of SAP, and the structure was reorganized so that SAP focuses on core journal processing and interface roles. GS ITM said this web-based architecture transition can block system load and maximize user response speed.

GS ITM will carry out the project based on its CMMI Level 3-based public SI project management process, and it is looking to expand its influence in the public retail tech market through this project.

Kang Min-gyun, CEO of GS ITM, said the company will concentrate its commerce POS technology and AI capabilities on advancing key systems across airport commercial infrastructure nationwide, and through this, secure convenience and accuracy that tenants can directly feel. He added that the company plans to introduce a data-driven concession platform while pursuing mutual growth with the client and tenants.
