Cloudera CEO: Data Is the New Competitive Edge, and Enterprise Operating Models Are Turning Hybrid

Charles Sansbury, CEO of Cloudera, said on the 20th local time at EVOLVE26 Singapore, held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore, that the world’s largest companies recognize the hybridization of operating models.

EVOLVE26 Singapore is Cloudera’s annual data and AI conference. At the event, Sansbury CEO pointed to data as a core capability that differentiates a company’s business and services.

As evidence, he cited the fact that data reflects each company’s unique context and that corporate data is distributed rather than concentrated in one place.

Cloudera said that in this environment it has hybrid capabilities spanning public cloud, data centers and the edge, and that it connects AI regardless of where the data resides.

Sansbury CEO said questions have persisted over the past few years about the share of workloads remaining on-premises or in the cloud. He said the initial tendency in responses was to expect most workloads to move to the cloud, but that the center of gravity gradually shifted as the same question kept coming up. He said the importance of the public cloud will continue, but that if private cloud and on-premises are included, data being distributed across the organization is inevitable.

In this changing environment, the issue has shifted to where workloads should be placed. Sansbury CEO said workloads have different computing requirements and different security requirements. He said a workload-specific platform placement platform based on performance, security and cost criteria, developed by Sansbury, was presented in this context, and explained that the importance of cost is also increasing.

At the same time, demand has grown to prevent data from being taken outside a trusted security environment. In response, Cloudera unveiled a new platform, "Anywhere Cloud," for multi-cloud and on-premises environments. "Anywhere Cloud" provides the ability to build, deploy and scale production-level AI applications, and is designed to deliver a consistent cloud experience wherever the data is located, without moving the data.

Sansbury CEO described private AI and sovereign AI from the same perspective, presenting the Anywhere Cloud architecture as an operating system based on a private AI architecture. He said that while cloud adoption changed how technology is used, the cloud could not change the location of the data itself. He added that the spread of AI has increased the importance of data utilization.

He said this announcement is the result of fulfilling all customer requirements from a year ago. At the time, customers wanted a single management screen that would work across on-premises, private cloud and public cloud. They also wanted data management and governance that could check data security, access rights and movement paths on the same screen, as well as development tools for building and operating generative AI and agentic AI applications.

Sansbury CEO said Cloudera has made major investments over the past 3 years to develop products customers need. The investments included R&D funding and 3 acquisitions, and he said $1 billion was used to develop the product lineup announced this time.

Sansbury CEO summarized the characteristics of customer groups in the Asia-Pacific region in two points, saying they are at the forefront of technology and are innovative in how they use it.
